Very recently, i was going through a phase where i craved self fulfillment. It was obvious that everything i was trying wasn’t helping, and that coupled with social media made me feel like my mental health was spiraling down the drain, so i resorted to something else.
Books for self improvement.
Once i made the decision to take a break from social media, i made a second decision to make sure i improved myself in some way during my break. Naturally, i inclined towards improving my mental health. And self improvement books were just the thing i needed. Firstly, because i love reading and secondly, that was a perfect way to satiate my desire for self-fulfillment. As it so happens, my father loves reading as well, hence his book study encompassing over 500 books.

I picked up a few of them, and from reading a few lines to now having completed over 5 of them, i have collated this list of very beautiful and well-written books that will definitely change your perspective on life and leave you feeling improved on all grounds.
1. How to Win Friends and Influence People – Dale Carnegie
First of all, Can i just go, phew! Dale Carnegie did an EXCELLENT job with this book. Hard work does pay off, as proved in his continuous reconditioning and revival of the ideas in the book. For me, it was a one read ticket to understanding psychology and human behavior. It gives an in-depth view into the human mind from both a personal view and otherwise. It is a 100% must read for me.
2. Rich Dad Poor Dad – Robert T. Kiyosaki
If you grew up ‘rich’ like Kiyosaki states in the cover, you would find yourself enlightened about certain financial aspects of life. Which understandably to you would be common knowledge, but sadly, for the rest of the world, they walk around as clueless as can be. Kiyosaki has brought to light these advices and tips the rich use to stay rich and get richer. I promise you this book will not only serve as a financial guide but push you to make better financial choices. I personally love how the book was written in an engaging first person POV.
3. 48 Laws of Power – Robert Green
I’m not claiming to to have read this book in its entirety. Apparently, there is a summarized soft copy of this book that makes it way easier to complete. And that was the copy i read. Honestly, i could sense great ideas and an even greater message to be packed in this book. But that message wasn’t conveyed in the summary version. But nonetheless, there is a reason this book made it to my top 5 list, it is because there is something valuable to be learned in it and the writer made sure to highlight those valuable points. It’s definitely a should-read for me.
4. A Gentle Reminder – Bianca Sparacino
I don’t care whatever disappointment or grief you’re going through at the time but this book will be sure to lift your spirits. Pure is the right term for this beautifully written book. This book reminds us that even at our worst, we should learn to give ourselves a break and love ourselves so dearly because in the end, we live for ourselves and no-one else.
5. The 80/20 principle – Richard Koch
In this very insightful book, Koch teaches us that no matter any aspect of life; relationships, work, happiness and success, one rule is dormant, that 80% of results come from 20% of our efforts. Which if you think about, is very true, he explains its applicability and how this unconventional rule can be put to use.
6. The Mountain is You – Brianna West
This book is one that pushes you to do your very best, it pushes you to achieve your goals and dreams. It allows you to get out of your own way. I believe if you’re someone with a passion or hope as regards something, this book is a must read. I personally love this book and it is something i’d recommend all day everyday.
Okay guys, that’s it! These are the books i believe everyone should read, that i have read. But there are still some that are worth mentioning that i have heard good things about though. They are right below.
