Shah Faisal Mosque, popularly known as Faisal Mosque is the 2nd Largest Mosque in the world (owing to its size of 1.4 million sqft). A contemporary beauty to behold, it dominates the landscape of Islamabad. It is situated at the northernmost end of the city, right at the foot of Margalla hills.
This mosque is a major tourist attraction and is regarded as a contemporary and influential piece of Islamic architecture that is an iconic symbol of Islamabad throughout the world.

Interesting Facts about this Masterpiece:
- It was completed in 1986.
- Construction began on the mosque 10 prior to completion in 1976 after a $28 grant from Saudi King Faisal.
- It was designed by Turkish architect, Vedat Dalokay
- It can hold about 300,000 people in its main prayer hall and courtyard.
- The mosque has no done shaped rooftops (unlike most mosques) because it was inspired by the design of a typical Bedouin tent.
Please note to all tourists; It is absolutely free to walk into this mosque, although the rules of the mosque state that people (especially Ladies) must be modestly covered. And you must remove your shoes and keep it at the entrance of the mosque.
